Montgomerys (NI) (2004 – present)

Summary:
Established in 1930 and recognised as one of the most successful family owned businesses in Co Antrim, Montgomery's continues to grow from strength to strength. Having opened their new state of the art store in the heart of Ballymena in 2005 they have become the envy of the local business community with a vibrant shop incorporating hardware, bathroom shop, cookshop and restaurant. Currently employing over 60 people locally they operate over 3 sites supplying the local community.
This case study is a great example of building on a relationship. We were initially asked to design and build their website however since then we have gone on to looking after all their networks and securities in their three locations. From the beginning we have worked alongside Montgomerys, liaising with 3rd party companies particularly with their EPOS system. We have also provided training and assisted them with their phone systems. MCC have become responsible for:

Hardware
The problem – In 2004 MCC were asked to look after Montgomery's computers and server networks.
The solution – MCC configured the network and server and centralised all the data on the network. Backups and securities were also put in place. The main shop was connected to the warehouse at a separate location on a VPN network. Since then MCC have also installed a cyber café in the restaurant employing all the necessary controls for safe internet use and tariffing.
The results – Montgomery's networks and computers operate reliably and this ensures that productivity is not affected.
Training
The problem – Montgomery's were very progressive in their training program. They wanted to ensure that their staff were up to date with computers especially in regards to emailing.
The solution – MCC tailored training specifically to suit Montgomery's requirements. The staff from the different departments were trained in filing and folder structures as well as the many other features within Microsoft Outlook, including "Netiquette".
The results – Using email Montgomery's departments now purchase, trade and carry out day to day communications efficiently and correctly. This promotes a huge time saving and efficiency in their systems.
Software
– Website
The problem – Montgomerys challenged MCC to build a website which would enable them to carry out e-commerce. It had to be in keeping with their established brands and identity.
The solution – MCC have tackled this in two phases. In phase one we developed www.montgomerys.net.as we felt it was important to get Montgomerys online so they could begin promoting themselves. Phase two is now underway which will bring onboard the full range of objectives required in the online solution.
The results – Montgomerys have a professional website which allows them to get on with promoting themselves now so that when they launch phase two they will have already established themselves online.
Communications
The problem – Montgomerys needed many areas of communications setup. Broadband for the Shop, Broadband for the Cyber Café, VPN for the separate locations, a separate connection for the EPOS system and a wireless network.
The solution – MCC setup all the above communications working at all times to the most cost effective solution and employing the most stringent securities measures. Throughout the project MCC liaised between Montgomerys and the 3rd parties where necessary. Another headache removed!
The results – MCC can now support Montgomerys in all these areas of communication, an important factor, as it is essential that business is not interrupted on a day to day to basis.
